The Fastest Car In The World

To be impartial, when we’re talking about The Fastest Car In The World, we’re going to limit our discussion to only include those cars currently in production.

A supercar that one can buy and drive like a regular every day car, not some one-off prototype vehicle built for achieving a specific purpose.

In other words, we’re talking about the fastest production car in the world, the street-legal car.

With that in mind, let’s reveal what is the fastest car in the world, it’s none other than the Bugatti EB Veyron 16.4 Super Sport.*

*Note: According to the Official Guinness World Records for the record of “Fastest Production Car“.

The Fastest Car In The World

According to the Guinness World Records, the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport set the top speed for fastest production road car of 431.07km/h (267.86mph) at the Volkswagen proving grounds in Ehra-Lessien near Wolfsburg, Germany, on 26 June 2010.

The previous record of 412.28 km/h (256.18 mph) was held by the SSC (Shelby SuperCars) Ultimate Aero TT for 3 years. SSC is said to be building the next generation super car that could reach 280mph. Until then, the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport will continue to hold the record of fastest car in the world 2011.

Furthermore, it also holds the current record of the world’s most powerful engine in a production car thanks to its engine output of 883kW (1,200hp) of power and 1500Nm (1,100ft-lb) of torque. The price tag of the Veyron Super Sport is estimated to be US$2.7mil, which also makes it one of the most expensive modern super cars ever built.

The Bugatti Veyron Super Sport is in fact a substantially re-engineered version from the original Bugatti Veyron with 1001bhp that set the world record of 408km/h (253.52mph) in 2005, toppling the previous record of 387.37 km/h (240.7 mph) set by Koenigsegg’s CCR.

After that, the SSC Ultimate Aero TT came along, bettered the record and held it for 3years. Now, Bugatti has reclaimed the top spot of The Fastest Production Car In The World 2011 with its re-engineered Veyron Super Sport version, pushing the ultimate production car speed to over 430km/h.

It’s not simply a matter of squeezing more horsepower (approx. 200bhp more) from the already impressive 1001bhp 8.0 liter W16 engine, but upgrading every aspect of the Veyron to ensure the vehicle is stable, safe and “behaves” well at speeds of 410km/h and beyond.

The Veyron Super Sport’s chassis has been extensively redesigned to maintain safety at such extreme speeds. Also, adjustments were made to the body to improve overall aerodynamic efficiency and to maintain the car’s balance in every situation that enables it to become the new fastest car in the world.

An interview with the driver Pierre Henri Raphanel, who piloted the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport into the Guinness World Records book.

The Veyron Super Sport is electronically limited to 415km/h (257.91mph) to prevent the tires from disintegration at extreme speeds. Its 8.0 liter W16 (equivalent to two V8 engines mated in a “W” configuration) DOHC quad-turbocharged petrol engine has 64 valves (16 cylinders each with 4 valves) and is capable of producing 1200bhp horsepower and 1500Nm of torque.

This stunning engine is mated with the state-of-the-art 7-speed DSG sequential gearbox that propels the Veyron Super Sport from 0-100km/h (0 – 62.1mph) in just 2.46secs, and covers the quarter-mile (402m) distance in just 10.2secs at 230km/h (142.9mph). Such impressive specifications are what makes the Super Sport the fastest street legal car in the world.

The Fastest Car In The World – Conclusion

The Veyron Super Sport won the award of “Car of the Decade” in Top Gear’s end of 2010 award show. The famed presenter of Top Gear Jeremy Clarkson even commented on the Veyron Super Sport that “It was a car that just rewrote the rule book really, an amazing piece of engineering, a genuine Concorde moment”. There is no doubt that the Veyron Super Sport truly deserves the title of the fastest car in the world.
